Life's a beach!!!
Entry 20 of 67 | show all | print this entry |
Our last night in Sydney ended up being a late one because we stayed up to watch the England - All Blacks game in a 24hr pub near Darling Harbour. It was an alright game (result wasn't a shock) but I got wound up by some Kiwi guy who seemed to think he knew everything about rugby, despite the fact he had as much knowledge of rugby as Andy Robinson!!! We got in at about 5am, then got a coach at 11pm to Newcastle.
Newcastle is an old convict settlement that has turned into an industry centre. The beach there was pretty nice but the shitty weather continued so we didn't do much except go to a couple of pubs and play some pokies... god knows why they don't have normal fruities!
After Newcastle we went to Port Macquarie. The weather was good and the town was beautiful. It was Melbourne Cup race day so all the bars were full of pissed up Aussies! We didn't bother watching it as we were just chilling. I went for a walk round the creek as the bloke running the hostel said that I might get to see wild koalas. No luck with that, but I did see some lizards and hundreds of fruit bats (the reason Ad didn't come on the walk). The bats stunk, and made loads of noise. We got to see them fly into the trees near the hostel later, which Ad wasn't to keen on! We saw some koalas the next day though, as we visited the Koala Hospital. The are pretty cool... even better that it was free!
We headd on to Coffs Harbour for a few nights, staying at the Ausitel Hostel. Its run by a group of lads, which makes it a lot more fun! We paid 7 bucks for all you can drink. The drink was "punch" made up of vodka, cheap wine AKA goon (4 litres for 4 pound). There were some good drinking games and it got us wasted!! all good.
Even with a hangover, I went kayaking on the creek with Simon. To be honest, I didn't do much of the rowing - I'm no Steve Redgrave. There wasn't much wildlife, although something red landed on me, but i got it off quick as it might well have been a deadly red-back spider!
We left Coffs, and arrived in Byron Bay on 10th, just as the weather turned awesome. Byron is an old hippy town, so its really chilled. We've already spent one day on the beach, and today by the pool in our hostel. The hostel is the best - everyone should stay here (The Arts Factory). Its got a volleyball court, didgeridoo lessons, free massages (soooooooo good), teepees, cinema. Its awesome. We're probably gonna stay here for over a week and spend less time in Surfers Paradise as we've heard it isn't as nice as Byron, and its full of schoolies so we won't be able to get a bed!
We've been out here too. Si's mate from uni now lives in Oz (lucky sod) and he and his bro have been down so we've had a few cheeky schooners with them. We've also been to the legendary Cheeky Monkeys, where the table tops have grip on them so everyone dances on the table. Me and Ad both fell off in our drnken state the first night. Neither of us got on them last night!!
Next stop Surfers, then to Brissie for the 1st Test. Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah Monty Panesar, Panesar, Monty Panesar!!! (to the tune of the Jobi McAnuff song)
