Ready, Set...
We just wanted to say a quick hello (and goodbye) before we set off on the trip tomorrow. It's been a crazy last month or so and we're not quite sure which was more stressful; wrapping up the final preparations for the wedding, entertaining - not to mention housing - a bunch of folks from back home for the week before the wedding and having to deal with the consequences of same (endless late nights and the accompanying hangovers), the wedding itself (the deed has been done), clearing out our apartment in Canada and moving its contents to various storage locations within Ontario and living out of a bag for 10 days at home in Ireland while getting ready for 'The Wedding Reception, Part II', and the frantic packing for tomorrows departure. It's all been a bit of a whirlwind but somehow we managed to get it all done.
As for the trip. Well, it's pretty much organised, embarrassingly so I might add; Meg has her Syrian visa firmly in her passport, we have our train tickets booked and paid for the French leg of the trip, and all accommodation has been pre-booked for the locations we'll be visiting from Ireland to Naples, Italy. All except for Venice that is. Booking reasonable accommodation ahead of schedule in Venice is a challenge, so we'll be reverting to the tried and tested approach of arriving at the train station and setting out on foot looking for beds. That's the way I normally operate on the road, but when travelling through Europe in summer it's wise to pre-book accommodation ahead of time. It increases the chances of getting reasonably priced beds, saving on costs. Plus, it gives us something we quite like... that being a definite itinerary, at least until we get to Naples.
The itinerary for the rest of the trip beyond Italy has, only in the last few days, changed; meaning I probably jinxed it somewhat by listing it in the last entry. Either that or it was just wholly ambitious from the outset. Either way from here on out I'm going to refrain from listing any sort of itinerary, and nor am I going to elaborate on our present plans. I'll only go so far as to say that we will definitely be getting back to Korea, and earlier than planned. Where we go from there is anyone's guess. Watch this space.
... Go.
