Hello once more!

After Brisbane we headed for the Gold Coast (the Sunshine Coast is a stretch of coast north of Brisbane and the Gold Coast is a stretch of cost south of Brisbane). Even more so than the Sunshine Coast, this is also a major tourist destination, particularly for Australians. Seemingly we'd had been given our lot of sunshine north in Queensland because all it seems to do now is rain! The weather is so different to what we enjoyed up north. Not only wetter but a good degree colder! It's like being at home, God dam it! So much so we renamed the Gold Coast the Cold Coast! Seriously though, we had a good laugh because we caught the international forecast and it said Dublin is enjoying 17-19 degrees whereas the average temperature here over the past few days has been 8-10 degrees! So now, you though travel was fun?! Ha.

Anyway, the weather aside, we drove through Surfers Paradise and got the obligatory pictures, in the rain, under the banner before continuing on and finally reaching Byron Bay. We spent a few very enjoyable days in Byron Bay, a new-age hippy hangout a few hours south of Brisbane. It was here we decided (possibly because of the wet conditions) to stay in a van-park cabin rather than in Syd (don't worry, he was parked safely outside!). It was a nice change, especially as it was wet, having our own little house complete with kitchen and bathroom. We had a great night out in Byron Bay at the a local backpackers pub called the Cheeky Monkey. We paid for our over indulgence however the following morning when we went to see the Cape Byron lighthouse on the most easterly point of the Australian mainland. Not much else to report.

When we move on today we've decided to leave the coast and head inland for the rest of the trip south. The rain is taking a bit of a shine off the costal route. I guess we were spoilt up north!

Still rather be here than in work however! Sorry, couldn't help it. See ya soon.
