Hello again!
Hey, life doesn't get any better than this. Driving down the Queensland coast on the Captain Cook Highway is a real treat! We really lucked out by getting Syd! The weather is beautiful, the scenery smashing and the pace of life just right. Poor old Syd's top speed of 50 miles, or 80km, an hour limits our speed of movement but we're quite happy to travel at this speed as we're in no hurry. We've had a few disgruntled truck and car drivers let us know we're holding them up but hey, that's not going to spoil the fun we're having.
Our first stop after Mission beach was Townsville. We spent a few days there and what a lovely place it is. We spent 2 amazing nights, easily the best 2 nights we've had out so far, in the Molly Malone pub in town and met some real Aussie locals. Some of the folks we got talking to on the first night (a Friday) where there to welcomed us when we arrived back in the bar on the Saturday night. Made us feel like real locals, if only for the night.
The town itself it just lovely, even when suffering a hangover! Big seafront strand with free outdoor BBQ's, free water parks and sea pools. Amazing. And of course they have the weather to match it all. We really enjoyed the Reef HQ, a sort of coral reef museum/education centre. They even gave us a student discount on the entrance fee as we were out of town backpackers! How nice. Townsville was class. The latest in a long line of highlights!
