I made it back to Cambodia, as part of another trip, in September 2005. Check out the entry for Phnom Penh here. As an entry it's a lot better than this crap. Honest.

Hello again! 2 countries down, 9 to go!
We crossed the border into Cambodia on January 5th and ended up here, in it's capital, Phnom Penh. Cambodia, like Vietnam but to a lesser extent, is a lovely place. It's not blessed with the natural beauty of Vietnam (or tarmac roads) but it makes up for it with the hospitability of the people. The country is in its infancy where tourism is concerned and is only really opening it's doors to tourists. Therefore the few who do make it here are welcomed with open arms. We spent 3 days here in Phnom Penh seeing the sights which, just like Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), are all dominated by the warring past of the country. The two main attractions here are the Ta Low (or S21) prison and Khmer Rouge Killing fields, both places of mass torture and killings by the Kamer Rouge when they held power in the country from 1975 - 1979. During the Khmer rule it is estimated more than 2 million Cambodians died at their hands. Again these places were not for the squeamish but interesting all the same. It's places like that that really make you feel lucky you live where you do.
Till next time, keep well.
Dave
