I made it back to Vietnam, as part of another trip, in September 2005. Check out the entry for Hue here. It's a lot better of an entry than this one. Honest.

The Imperial city of Hue was our next stop. After a jarring overnight bus trip from Hanoi we were glad to get to a hotel room (and what a beautiful room it was) and catch up on some well needed rest. Then it was up and out to have a look around. Bumped into a friend from college and as it turns out there were a few old college friends in town at the time! World is such a small place, can't go anywhere etc etc. We did a visit to the imperial tombs and to the Thien Mu Pagoda. The usual touristy things to do when in Hue. After that it was off again, this to Hoi An, further down the coast.
