CK, take 3
Welcome back. It's been a while. So what has happened? Well, the 4 weeks of madness at Camp Korea rolled around as fast as it has ever done. I'm not quite sure how but camp seems to better itself every time. My kids were a blast, I had so much fun and of course I met some amazing people I hope to see again and again. You all know who you are. I've included a few pictures of my time at camp with this pitiful entry and although they will only make sense to the folks in them I hope you all enjoy viewing them nonetheless. The pictures of me with my classes aside they are mostly socialising pictures which should give you some indication of what sort of camp it was.
Waiting in Seoul
So with camp out of the way I'm presently in Seoul, the capital of this amazing country, and as the title of this entry states I've not much to do. At least it isn't pissing rain like it was the last time I was here or freezing like the time before that. And at least the travel plans are all set. I bought a plane ticket yesterday and I fly to Hong Kong this coming Friday. Today is Tuesday, I think. It's had to keep track of the days when one has nothing to do. Trust me on that one. About the toughest thing I have to do each day is wake up and I seem to have to deal with that way too often. I've joined up with Cal, a Canadian guy I originally met at camp 12 months ago, and we're staying with a friend of Cal's, Cess, here in Seoul. She is a diamond. I even have my own room with a sparsely populated double bed. Cal will be with me for the next 4 months; he seemed to like the idea of bumming around South East Asia, India, Nepal and Tibet with me between now and January. And why wouldn't he? If our time here in Korea is any indication of the coming months then we're gonna have fun. Of that there is no doubt. As I type Cal is in the Chinese embassy sorting out his visa (not to mention a wicked hangover). I did that in Dublin before leaving home only to realise a few days ago that the thing will expire before I get around to fully using it. Whoops. The plan is to get back here to Korea for the New Years celebrations before restocking the already rapidly dwindling bank balance by going to winter camp in January. I wonder how many Travelpod entries I'll actually get around to creating between now and then.
What lies ahead
So that's a very quick, and as I said pitiful, update as to my whereabouts and intentions. Guess I'll be saying hello next time from Hong Kong but as I've been there before I doubt I'll have anything interesting to say. We're meeting a mate we met in camp, Gareth, in Hong Kong and so with a bit of local knowledge (Gareth's parents live in Hong Kong) on our side I reckon Hong Kong might be as much of a blur as camp was. I certainly expect it to be different to my last trip.
Then after a few days in Hong Kong we'll be entering China proper for the overland trip to Hanoi in North Vietnam where we will hook up with friends of mine from home for a 3 week jaunt to Bangkok. It's a route I've travelled before as part of my rtw trip, so although the first time buzz should be missing I'm still very excited about getting to do that little corner of SE Asia again.
Until next time. Oh, and don't forget to check out the photos I've gone to the trouble of uploading for your viewing pleasure. Okay? Good.
