What I did
Eagles Nest,

Friday, September 13, 2013

Today we woke up to rain and decided we would do the Dokumentation OberSalzberg, which is an exhibit on the history of Obersalsberg and the Nazi dictatorship. Very enlightening of Hitler's rise and eventual suicide. We were able to go into the bunker complex. The ruins of the Berghof (Hitler's house) and the SS barracks were blown up in 1952.
The rain stopped and we were able to take a bus up to the Eagle's Nest a complex on top of the Kehlstein Mountain at 6017 ft.  The road to the top was on hairpin turns and 13 ft. wide with shear drop offs on one side and cliffs on the other.  If it had been a clear day we could have views for 120 miles.  We had some lunch at the Eagle's Nest, which has now been turned into a restaurant.  To get there we had to take an elevator 406 ft up through the heart of the mountain.

After getting back to hotel, we found a nearby bakery for coffee and pastry.
