Today we headed south on Highway 101.  We took a scenic 31 mile side trip through the Avenue of the Giants of Redwoods.  It was spectacular as these trees are so mammoth and up to 1500 years old.  Some of them reach 360 ft. tall.

We stopped at several scenic areas along the route and did several hiking trails through the forests.  It was beautiful.

My next brainstorm was to take a trip to the coast and travel down the coast for a little while.  Little did I know that the road was 26 miles of hairpin turns and I do mean hairpin turns and not going over 30 mph.  Once we got to the coast it was beautiful.  We traveled down the coast about 15 miles and then had to turn back eastward to get to our hotel.  The only road back was 28 miles of more hairpin turns, not quite so bad, but bad enough.  Elaine, you would not have liked this one bit!

By the time we got to the hotel in Ukiah, we decided to go to the pool and cool off.  It's 96 degrees here.
