People in San Miguelde Allende are starting to form self protection groups,
at the encouragement of the Mexican City and State Governments,
in response to the increasing crime rate......
VEVO - Vecino Voluntaros - Neighourhood Volunteers - Neighbourhood Watch....
VEVI  - Vecino Vigilantes - Neighbourhood Vigilantes -  Neighbourhood Watch..
In Spanish, the term Vigilantes is a more passive term than the same term in English...
In Spanish, the term Vigilantes means more about being vigilant.......

Last Tuesday, an attempt was made to mug me...

Details of The Attempted Mugging:
Description of Mugger:Tall and thin - about  6' 3/4" with a dark complexion (Mexican) and was wearing a large long sleeved light white summer jacket with a hood and jeans..He was wearing sunglasses - it was totally dark out...
Tuesday @ 9:30pm - approximately/about.  Entered the Rinconada Walk Way at the East end - off of San Antonio...Noticed the man described above standing beside the entrance to the Rinconada Walk Way, watching us...A group of teenagers were coming up the Rinconada towards us.The described man had started to come down the Rinconada Walk Way behind us, but went back to the entrance of the Rinconada Walk Way and waited until the teenagers had passed.I noticed the described man walking down the Rinconada Walk Way behind us very quickly, like he was trying to catch up to us.I stopped and backed up against the wall, to let the described man pass us. However, he did not pass us. He stopped and stared at me.     I motioned to him several times to continue going. He started coming towards me, and he had his hand in his pocket..I did not want him to get close to me, because then he would own me. So I started yelling and screaming as loud as I could: POLICIA, POLICIA, HELP, HELP, HELP, POLICIA..He ran away very quickly up the Rinconada Walk Way,and was around the corner of the Rinconada Walk Way and out of sight in less than 10 seconds.
It was like he was doing the 100 yard dash...  It was a very scary situation...
It was during the Eastern Holidays, which attracts many tourists to San Miguel de Allende,
which also attracks many crooks and thieves to San Miguel to rob them..It is a time to be extra careful... Muggers prefer to catch their victims unexpectectantly and by surprise,
and that was not going to happen this time in this case...
Muggers like to come up behind their vicitims and hit them on the head or put a knife to their throat... Muggers, in general, do not like to come towards a vicitim that is facing them and is on guard and ready to fight... However, muggers also like to work in teams of two or three.
A lone mugger may be more vilolent because they are one on one and do not want or like to take chances so they will want to take complete charge and control over their vicitim ny incapitating them in a very violent fashion.......
The person who was with me was of no help and was more of a liability, and was completely oblivious to our environment and what was going on around us.. The kind of vicitim the muggers like to have.........

I do wonder if these types of situations are a direct result and consequence
of income and wealth inequality... And will continue to increase on a widespread basis
over the long term, everywhere...  ... Wonder Away Dave......
