Mis Estimados Compadres,
Amigos, Amigas,Compañeros y Compañeras:

Now. Here. This.   -   Ahora. Aquí. Esta.

I saw flocks of birds heading North yesterday - I think that, that means something...

Pictures of a hot air balloon floating by that I see from my bedroom window in the morning...

Easter Celebrations have started in San Miguel, Mexico....
- they really take Easter seriously here in Mexico - especially San Miguel...
No Easter Bunnies and Easter Eggs - just lots of re-enactments of Jesus
suffering on the cross and lots of stuff on how badly he was mistreated.....
He was very badly mistreated.......

More on the Reporting of Drug War Violence in Mexico...

The war on drugs in Mexico is really a war on corruption....

The Mexicans do not consider drugs a problem in Mexico. They are fighting this war in part because of US pressure and to please the Crazy US Drug Policy makers
and also because it is a requirement of NAFTA - North American Free Trade Agreement....
However, the criminal, Drug Cartel Gangs do branch out into other areas of activity,
such as kidnapping, extortion, etc. And this is a problem that the Mexicans
are concerned about.. But the war on drugs in Mexico was really started in earnest
as a war on corruption..  Mexico is already one of the most corrupt countries in the world
- some say it is the most corrupt country in the world. The corruption resulting from the Drug Cartels was undermining both the police system, the justice system, the political system (much like powerful financial vested interests are undermining and corrupting the USA political system),
and the news media... In other words, the Mexican Drug Cartels were corrupting the entire Mexican system and country in a very significantly way....
The Mexican politician have realized that to bring Mexico into the modern world, they had and have to do something about corruption in Mexico. And they started with the corruption resulting from the Drug Cartels which was the most corrupting corruption in Mexico...
Their first step was to send 40,000 army troops into Northern Mexico, which occupied the police station in Northern Mexico in an attempt to end police corruption - it probably reduced police corruption but it did not end it... Unfortunately, this action destabilized the Organized Crime structure in Mexico - making it more of a disorganized Organized Crime structure... (note: A United Nations study indicates that there is organized crime in every country in the world). This resulted in the drug wars in Mexico.. Most of the killings and murders in Mexico are Drug Cartel members killing each other in a struggle for territory and profits, which are huge, which are gigantic....

Than the Zeta, Drug Cartel moved into Mexico from Guatemala - sort of like the Italian mafia moved into the USA.
Zeta;s are from Guatemala and are paramilitary in nature - they were American trained.and equipped to fight a civil war in Guatemala - when the civil war in Guatemala ended they were unemployed - so to speak. So they found other employment - in the drug business....
To give you an idea of how the Zeta`s operate - in one incident,a few years ago, when they were establishing territory in Mexico....  they put the heads - the decapitated heads - of 50 of their competitors on the top of cars, the roofs of the cars, to mark their territory...sort of like dogs peeing on trees to mark their territory...These pictures were on the front pages of almost all of the Mexican newspapers at the time...I do not think that these pictures got into the Canadian newspapers...
But maybe they did - I do not remember it happening....
.
Although over a 100 news media reporters have been murdered in Mexico in the last 10 years,
there have only been 3 cases where someone has gone to trial in respect to these murders...
There have been convictions in the 3 cases that have gone to trial...
However, there are doubts that the persons convicted in respect to these murders were the persons that actually gave the orders for the murders or were even the ones that actually pulled the trigger...The accused do not usually start pointing fingers at other people and say he did it, he did it, he did it - I didn't do it. Or use the "I was just following orders, I had to do it" as a defense...
The expression re: the one that pulled the trigger is not literally the case, it is figuratively speaking..
Because the murdered individuals were usually tortured for many hours before they were killed...
The Mexican Trial system is quite a bit different than the Canadian system - there is not a trial by jury - it is a trial by Judge - which can happen in Canada too, but at least in Canada, it is the accused's choice....Also, in Mexico the court cases are not open to the public, usually - it is up to the Judge......
The way it works in Mexico - the prosecutor makes a written submission to the Judge with the supporting evidence included.and sends a copy to the accused's lawyer... The accused's lawyer than makes a written submission to the Judge.. On the basis of these written submissions,
the Judge decides on the guilt or innocence of the accused. There is no trial as we would know it.
The Judge is not interested in hearing the accused testify under oath that he is innocent and that he didn't do it.. especially when it is obvious that he is guilty....
The persons convicted re: the murder of the news media reporters received an average 10 year jail sentence - you have to wonder about these Judges sometimes....or maybe they just like living
and staying alive......

Viva La Mexico
