I went to the Jardin in San Miguel, Mexico for New Year's Eve - the Central Plaza was packed with people - crammed in - it was difficult to move. There was a Mexican Rocker Band on a big, temporary stage. All of the band members were Rockers. They sang in Spanish, most of the time..
"Boullie, Boullie"  - was one of the few English songs that they did. The band front man and singer was an old Rocker with lots of really white hair and on the heavy side (FAT).  The Band was really good - really great music......

A lot of the kids in the crowd (15 to 30), looked very bored, did not look like they were enjoying themselves, looked like they did not really want to be there, were constantly looking around the crowd to see who else was there or for someone that they knew, were on their cell phones, were texting messages, etc..... To me they looked like people who did not know who they were, did not know what they were, did not know what they wanted, did not know where they were going and had no direction in their lives and needed to look around and find other people to find out who they were, what they were and what they wanted......
I know people like that - who do not know who they are, what they are or what they want and are constantly looking around at other people to try to figure out who they are, what they are and what they want...I do not like being around such people, partly because they are unpredictable..and they are difficult to connect with.....they are either trying to be the person that they think you want them to be or they keep their distance from you because they think that they are not the type of person that you want them to be.....

I think that this might be more common in younger people - people under 30...
And it might be more common with people that do not have much education..
People that are getting an education are focusing on their getting their education,
and then they are focusing on getting to use their education in some meaningful way..
Also, educations may open doors and windows onto other worlds for them that may give them direction and the social stimulation of being with other people that are also getting an education and/or a higher education may give them direction...

There were many others that were there that were enjoying the great music and were enjoying themselves...
When midnite came - there were fireworks of course - many/most of the people lit up sparklers and waved them around - and some people had miniature hot air balloons that they sent up into the air, that kept going up until they went out of sight...  which were pretty neat and cool....
The miniature hot air balloons had a small platform underneath them with some kind of fuel which was set on fire  - the fire on the small platform produced heat and hot air which filled the hot air ball on and gave it its buoyancy.. The hot air balloons would float through the air until the fire died out and  there was not enough hot air to keep the hot air ball on floating....
I would like to get some of those miniature hot air balloons for myself if I can find out where to get them.. They not be available in San Miguel - it may have been out-of-towners (tourists) that had brought them to San Miguel....

When Midnite comes, and the BIG CELEBRATION, I always feel a little bit let down
- is that all there is to it...... I am not really a party person....
Was at a great New Year`s Day party on New Year`s Day (January 01/Tuesday),
courtesy of Tom and Cynthia Lynch. Best party I have been to since being back in San Miguel..
Because of the Xmas season and holidays - I have been to about 10 parties since I have been back in San Miguel - the New Year`s Day party is the last party I will be going to here for awhile,
which is good because I am sick and tired of going to parties and socializing....
In some ways I like the idea of a New Year`s Day party (afternoon) better than a New Year`s Eve party...I think that I will send an email to Tom and Cynthia Lynch congratulating them on a great party and tell them how wonderful it was......and how glad I am that I was invited to it and how much I enjoyed it...I guess I like New Years Day (afternoon) parties better than New Years Eve parties is because I have a hard time staying up until midnite. This New Years Eve I managed to stay up to midnite because that Rocker Band really Rocked and it was really great music....
The Rocker Band packed it in and packed up at about 10 minutes before midnite - and a MC took over with some really hot looking broad to get the crowd worked up and to do the count down.
After the countdown and 10 minutes of celebrating and noise making they played music over the PA system - all English songs and music - mostly Elvis Presley - I Am Just A Hound Dog - Rock Around the Clock - Jail House Rock - etc....

Actually, this is the first New Year`s Eve celebration that I have been to in years - I cannot remember specifically when the last time was that I was at a New Year`s Eve celebration..I remember being at a New Year`s Eve celebration/party in Vancouver...that would be pre-1976, when I moved to Ottawa.
I remember that I did not particularly enjoy that New Year`s Eve celebration/party - I felt that everyone there was playing or acting a part - doing what they thought people should be doing on New Year`s Eve to celebrate - it was a neighbourhood party and I did know everyone there, but I was not particularly close to anyone there - I was never really very close with my neighbours - civil, neighbourly, friendly, but not close in anyway...and sometimes not even very friendly....
There is two big celebrations in Ottawa at the Parliament buildings every year.
The New Year`s Eve fireworks at midnite and the July 01, Canada celebration, with fireworks that evening about 11:30pm...... I think that I very vaguely remember being at the New Year`s Eve celebration on Parliament Hill on New Year`s Eve and freezing to death - it is cold, very cold on Dec. 31 at nite time in Ottawa... And we (I would have taken the whole family if I had gone) would have gone to see the fireworks - so it is not really a celebration, you just go to see the fireworks - and I really do not or did not or would not enjoy standing on the front lawn of the Parliament Buildings with 100,000 other strangers at nite time ....I may be imagining the whole thing because I cannot remember the BIG MOMENT when it was 12:00/Midnite and what happened then..
Maybe my kids can comment if they remember ever being on the front lawn of the Parliament Buildings on New Year`s Eve to see the fireworks as a family ....Some of the reason`s that I would have gone to the New Year`s Eve, Parliament Hill, thing in Ottawa is that it`s being on the front lawn of the Parliament Buildings of the Great Canadian Nation does have some symbolic significance, and if 100,000 people are going to see it and to be there, it must be worth going to and seeing and being there and IT WAS FREE......

Although I do not remember specifically, I am certain that I did take my family to the Canada day celebration on July 01/Canada Day, at least once. It is warmer then - quite pleasant on  a July 01/evening in Ottawa. But being on the front lawn of the Parliament Buildings with 100,000 other strangers (many of them drunk - the streets are covered in puke the next day - Canadians - especially the younger ones - are not particularly good at holding their liquor) is more of a hassle for me than it is an exciting, enjoyable, pleasurable experience. And driving there and parking is a real hassle...
I think that these types of celebrations might be fun for kids in the 15 to 30 year age range and maybe the older single ones that live down town or relatively close by...An it is an excuse and reason to get drunk.....
I went to the New Year`s Eve celebration in the Jardin in San Miguel, Mexico because:
(1) it was very convenient to do so - a 15 minute walk from my place...and
(2) the pleasant weather.... and
(3) because it is a smaller community I thought that I would be seeing people there that I knew (there were thousands of people there and I maybe saw 5 people that I knew....and it was so crowded I could hardly move.......and
(4) out of curiosity, I wanted to see what was happening.... and
(5) because of the novelty of the situation.......and
(6) because it was FREE, .....

And I saw people there that were like I was 30 years ago - with their wives that looked like they did not want to be there, that were there because this is what you are supposed to do on New Year`s Eve to celebrate and you have to be enjoying yourself and having fun. It is a little bit like going to church (I am speaking for myself) - it is something that you have to do, not something that you really want to do or enjoy doing. But at a New Year Eve`s celebration you have to be enjoying yourself and having fun...You do not have to do that when you go to church.... Note: I do not have to do things that I do not want to do anymore at my age, and I am retired - so I do not go to church, if I do not want to go to church....

Usually I am in bed and asleep by midnite, when the New Year comes in.....
I do not think that I will go to the New Year`s Eve celebration in the Jardin (Central Plaza),
San Miguel. Mexico next year - but maybe, you never know.
And I will be here in San Miguel, Mexico, next year`s New Year`s Eve;
because I live here in San Miguel now...........
