I have been in Miguel for almost 2 weeks now, and I I have been charging everything on my credit card(s) like crazy
Right now - in San Miguel - there are red, magenta and purple flowers everywhere - a little bit like dandelions in Spring in Ottawa .Except that these beautiful flowers are not weeds - they grow on bushes - and they are very loud, strong, bright colours - and they are everywhere...in the Spring - about April - in San Miguel - another type of flower comes out for about 6 weeks - the Jacarandas - they are a different shade & type of purple flowers and they come out everywhere and are everywhere - if and when I get another camera - I will take pictures and show you them.
I wear rose coloured sun glasses in San Miguel which makes the colours of the flowers look even brighter and more colourful and beautiful - actually my rose coloured sun glasses make everything look brighter and more colourful, including people...I certainly recommend that people wear rose coloured sun glasses to make their world look brighter and more beautiful....the sky is a brighter blue, the many different houses painted in many different bright, loud, strong colours - Yellow, blue, pink, green are brighter - it brightens up the whole, entire world....
I wear a pedometer to measure how far I walk - I walk everywhere in San Miguel...
I have noticed that walking in San Miguel, based on my pedometer readings, seems to be like
walking 3 to 4 times the distance further and longer than the same distance in Ottawa/Vanier..
This is because of the very steep streets - San Miguel is on the side of a mountain - and maybe it is because of the high altitude and thinner air - San Miguel is about 6,500/7,000 ft. above sea level. Normally, on level ground, I like to walk very fast... It is impossible to walk fast up a very steep street.
One thing I do find un-nerving when I am walking around San Miguel - is a car pulling up beside me than stopping...I always look to see what they want.... It is the killer speed bumps on the streets of San Miguel - the speed bumps are so high that you cannot go over them slowly. You have to come to a complete stop and than go over them very slowly. The cars that are pulling up beside me than stopping - are not stopping for me - they are stopping for the speed bumps...
the killer speed bumps are everywhere..... Note: San Miguel has no traffic lites, no traffic signs, no parking meters (free on street parking), very narrow steep streets, every corner is a blind corner, no speed limits, but lots of killer speed bumps - there is no need for speed limits - it is impossible to speed in San Miguel......
I get a kick out of seeing the pickup trucks - there are a lot of pickup trucks in San Miguel - loaded with 5 or 10 people in the back of the pickup truck. They tell me that riding in the back of a pickup truck is against the law - there are a lot of laws in Mexico that are never enforced..Except, maybe to be used to shake down unsuspecting touristo`s. Yesterday, I saw a little old lady sitting in the back of a pickup truck - it looked like there were 5 little kids crammed into the front cab of the pickup truck - so maybe she was the grandma and there was not enough room in the cab for her....I am not use to seeing little old ladies sitting in the back of a pickup truck..
Viva La Mexico
Viva San Miguel de Allende.....
