Took a cab at 8:00am this morning to the bus station.
Traffic on the Queen's Way was very light.
Unbelievable - light traffic on the Queensway during the morning rush hour traffic..
Must be the effect of summer holidays...
I am glad that I live in Ottawa and
Not that Hell Hole known as Toronto
Which has perpetual rush hour traffic and perpetual traffic jams...

Bus station clientele are definitely different than other travelers...
No business men or people traveling on the bus for business purposes..
Probably most of the bus clientele are in the bottom third of society (IE. no car, low income - maybe students and seniors) with a few exceptions (like me - maybe - since I am no longer a car owner
and I am a low income senior on a fixed income just trying to make ends meet in this cold, hard, cruel world)..
A few unsavory looking types seemed to be hanging around the bus station for no apparent reason.
In the USA, the bus stations in the big cities are a magnet for the unscrupulous who like to prey on the new, naive, young people who are coming to the big city for the first time in their life...
Is Canada following in the USA's footsteps....

Long lineups at the Toronto and Montreal bus gates - short lineup at the Kingston bus gate....

On the bus on the way to Kingston, in the rain,
I had time to think about things (I am usually too busy to think about things)
and I had an
"OH MY GOD" moment.

Am I really going to canoe over 200 kilometers from Kingston to Ottawa in the rain...
And a momentary flash of panic - what have I gotten myself into....
Then I got a grip on myself and look out the bus window at the pouring rain
as the miles passed by that I was going to have to canoe on the way back to Ottawa...

I hope that someone, somewhere will say a prayer for me....

Just before starting out on a new adventure - and maybe at the very start - is a time
of excitement for me, stepping into the unknown and not knowing for sure what to expect,
I find exciting - and I am basically an optimist - so I always am looking forward
to what is to come next with excitement and enthusiasm....
Just riding on the bus reminds me of my youth - although even as a youth
I never did ride much on the buses...

This is going to be a really great canoe trip and adventure...

I am in Kingston now exploring this old historic town/city - it used to be a British Garrison
and was the capital of Upper Canada briefly - I am putting in time until they load
the Logistical Support Team's cargo Van at 6:00pm
Am staying at Rick Hatton and Anne Coward's place in the country tonite as their guests

Bon Voyage
