Have a Hay Day
Trip Start Mar 07, 1997
95Trip End Dec 25, 1998
Picking the perfect pumpkin is just as important as getting the right Christmas tree, and Richard and Anne have turned the occasion into a fun-family event, complete with a petting barn and a walk-through cornstalk maze.
Begin with the hayride out to the patch, select your pumpkins, then weigh and pay. The hayride will stop by your car to let you safely stow away your purchases. Then back to the barn to talk to the animals and nuzzle their noses. The farm is stocked with the ordinary, such as calves and donkeys and goats and ponies, which visitors can pet. But they have exotics too - llamas, emus, rhea birds, water buffalo, peacocks, and even a pot-bellied pig.
Look for more in the hayloft - take your seat on a hay bale, and hear the adventures of Johnny Appleseed. Ever wanted to zip down a cable into a haystack? Go ahead! There are plenty of haystacks for climbing and sliding. Stop by the sorghum mill and the log cabin; cross the pond on the swinging bridge. Paddle the paddle boats. Clap for the musicians and the cloggers; watch the clowns and magicians wandering the grounds.
Then head for home with hay in your hair and a trunk full of pumpkins, those gorgeous globes of summer's last sun. See you there.
