Go with me? It's the weekend we take the time to look both ways. And Huntsville, Alabama is a super spot to reminisce over what was, while we revel in the possibilities of what can be.

Huntsville cares about its past. It showcases the spot where Alabama statehood began in 1819; and lovingly maintains one of America's oldest railroad depots. The Twickenham Historic District protects the largest collection of antebellum houses in the state; some even occupied by descendants of the original owners.

But Huntsville is geared to push into the future too. Alongside a six-lane freeway on the red-rich soil of Alabama farmland, Saturn V rockets and Pathfinder Space Shuttles welcome us to the world's largest space museum. It's the NASA Space and Rocket Center, and we're going to buy a ticket and stay the day.

What to do first? The Journey to Jupiter? The Moonwalk? The centrifuge? There is a mind-boggling assortment of exhibits and hands-on displays. The Spacedome Theater puts us in the middle of the action with a 67-foot screen showing actual shuttle footage. It's like being on board a mission.

Our ticket includes a bus tour of the Marshall Space Flight Center and Mission Control, where scientists are designing portions of the space station, so we'll see what's ahead too. And we can sign ourselves up for Space Camp. It's for adults and children from 4th grade up, and the classes continue year-round. A futuristic endeavor, for sure! See you there.
