The University of the South, an independent liberal arts university, has a 10,000-acre campus in a gorgeous mountain setting atop the Cumberland Plateau. Native sandstone was used for gothic buildings in the Oxford/Cambridge style; be sure to see All Saints' Chapel, the Memorial Cross, Green's View overlook, and the Abbott Martin Ravine Gardens, tours are available.

At the Sewanee Summer Music Center, for over 40 years summers have been graced with concerts; includes faculty recitals, the Sewanee Symphony and Cumberland Orchestra, and guest conductors and soloists of international fame. Season tickets are available.

Stay at Clouds Rest on Rattlesnake Spring Lane, a B&B with 4 rooms and gourmet breakfast, by a lake. Eat at 4-Seasons Restaurant between Sewanee and Monteagle, all-you-can-eat buffet.
