Mentone, Alabama, population 474.

Mentone means "musical mountain spring," but here you can add the sound of fiddles and church chimes too, with year-round festivals and a Musical Mountain Christmas; the Mentone Wedding Chapel is a lovely spot for getting married. The little town has a number of craft shops, many artists and craftspersons live on the mountain. Thousands of boys and girls get their summer camp experience in the Mentone area.

The southernmost ski resort in the counry is the Cloudmont Ski and Golf Resort; when there is snow, or weather cold enough to make snow, the thousand-foot hills above Saddle Rock Golf Course are used for skiing; the rest of the year you can putt. The Resort is open year round for housing, horseback, trails, fishing, and either golf or skiing.

Shady Grove Dude and Guest Ranch, Alabama's only dude ranch, is situated on 1,000 acres near Cloudmont, the entire area offers hiking trails and river and wilderness adventure; horseback and wagon rides, square dancing. Accommodations at the Ranch: Bunk House has 10 singles; Farm House has 5 bedrooms; Roundup Lodge has motel rooms and continental breakfast.
