Pangloss stated to Candide (I'm quoting Voltaire here) "All events are linked up in this best of all possible worlds," (and then goes on to list the trials and tribulations that make up the story) but if they had not happened, he pointed out, "you would not be here eating candied citrons and pistachios."

"Tis well said," Candide replied, "but we must cultivate our gardens."

It's mid-July now, five months till I go on the southern leg of my Circles journey, and summer is warming Seattle, a city that never gets hot and never, really, gets very cold. A temperate climate, a laid-back lifestyle, and something beautiful to look at whichever way you turn. It's been my home for more than 20 years now, an accidental find on a short-term venture. But that's another story.

I've been thinking about my northern excursion, the sweet respect of Elder-hood, the pure dee fun of a Hummer ride on a bear hunt, the connections made with people from different street corners than those I cross every day. It was good. Berry Berry Good. (Remember the comic on SNL who did the routine "bazeball been berry berry good to me"?)

I paraphrase: Travel been berry berry good for me. But for a little while, I need to tend the garden.
