Monday, November 8, 1993

I was in Trenton in 1971 when my dad worked there and my sons flew up to stay with their grandparents for a week or two. They were 12, 11, and 6. Hubby and I drove up later, picked up brother Craig who was working in Cherry Point at the time. Had an absolutely wonderful visit. They lived in Morristown, PA across the river, on the Delaware Canal. Washington's Crossing! Daddy hated Trenton and said it was dirty and crime ridden, so we didn't do much sightseeing on that side of the river.

I visited Trenton alone in November 1993 on the Capitals Trip after Harrisburg and before Dover. Well guess what. I liked it! True there are rundown city parts, but it's so historical! I enjoyed very much my visit inside the capitol. Busy, seemed like work going on. I spent the night in Princeton and man oh man what a gorgeous town that is. The huge colorful autumn leaves were all over the ground, true college campus feel. Didn't see Einstein's brain however.

New Jersey was the THIRD state.
Date: December 18, 1787

Trenton was settled in 1679 and became the capital in 1790. Have you seen the famous portrait of George Washington crossing the Delaware River during the Revolutionary War? It happened on Christmas night, 1776, as the Continental Army began its march toward British-held Trenton. Do you know who won?

You can see a lot of Revolutionary War history in and around Trenton, and at the Old Barracks Museum. Trenton also has an Intermediate Space Transit planetarium and is close to Princeton University, where Albert Einstein spent his last years (his brain is preserved there!).
