Lake McDonald next. A year has 365 days. I don't believe another one would have more sparkle in the lake. The water crystal clear. We have to stop, and walk around the edge. Glacier-made, its trough is deep -- 440 feet. The book says it's 11 miles long.

Andrew has to chunk some rocks. Of course! A family over there. Daddy, Mommy, and four kids. Little kids, that Dad is teaching fishing to. Patience, that is what I hear. And Mom enthusiastic, praising every child. Dad helps with the line, the bait. "Look kids," he says, and I look too. An eagle, just above my head, and close. "He's young," the dad explains, "probably just born this spring."

Andrew chunks another rock, watches as the waves spread out, heading clear across the lake. Lucky children here. Lucky all of us.
