I was dressed at 7; if I got it to the shop by 7:30 I was sure we'd be done in time. I told Matt I was leaving, keep sleeping, I said. They decided it was the thermostat. Their mechanic wasn't there however, so could I come back tomorrow? No! Can you call another mechanic in? Okay, they called, he'll be here in an hour.
I called my brother. Stand by on alert I said. My car is in the shop. You may have to take Dad to the clinic. I'll let you know.
Plan A morphed into Plan B, then C. The noon hour was approaching fast. You'd better go on to Jasper, I told brother, I know I can't make it now. I'll take Dad tomorrow then. So, Matt and I can come to your house later this afternoon, about 3. That plan was canceled too, Plan F, and G, no predicting anymore. At 3 PM I asked if they would drive me home, and pick me up when they were done. They kindly did.
My car wasn't ready until 5 PM, they cut the bill in half, admist apologies, I'm sorry's. They'd fix one thing and then another would go wrong. I didn't fuss, what would be the point? My car is old, it's time for things to fall apart. But it's OK, they promised now, a one-year guarantee.
So NOW, for the Italian place? Our appetites were worthy of a pasta night, olive oil, tomato sauce, and service that assuaged our miffled souls. Being pampered is its own reward. Next door, the Target store, let's buy some movies, Matt suggested. Let's have a movie night.
