It was a lazy Sunday morning too, What a glorious day this would be! We had a quiet ride through the ever narrowing country roads but there it was, finally, the coastal spot of legends. I couldn't find the water, though.
Matt sighed. WHAT? I asked impatiently. I'm hungry, he said. We stopped in at Jack's, for a Big Breakfast Biscuit. I spotted a hefty looking fellow downing pancakes and sausage who looked as though he might be native born. Where is the water? I asked. He gave directions, turn right just beyond the bridge.
Oak trees dressed in Spanish moss, a wispy route, past boats you make your money with, but most were moored today. A day to rest? Or is the BP ban still on, from the oil catastrophe? End of the road, I stop the car. What will we do HERE? Matt asked.
Look, I said. Just look.
We watched a boat go out to sea, another one come in. I'm not leaving until you touch the Gulf of Mexico, I said. You've come 3,000 miles. At least put one finger in. That's what he did. Now let's go, he said, getting back into the car.
Just like Forrest's Mama says, you never know what you'll get.
