So what can you do when you come down here; and what and where are the places to eat and stay. After 30 years, I can say that I have stayed everywhere from the famous ritzy Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport back in 1976 (taking shelter from a runaway hurricane that spun its way up the Northern US coastline), to the Salty Acre Camp grounds on Route 9. Most of the stays between that have been in rented cottages near the beach or in the picturesque fishing village of Cape Porpoise. Over the past three years my sis has rented a SPECTACULAR house overlooking the Cape Porpoise harbour complete with lobster boats and the lighthouse on the island at the front of the harbour. The house is located on Langsford rd. The nice touch from the owner is that she bakes a glorious carrot cake for all her new rental customers. And that is the typical non-stop hospitality you get around here.
THE LEGENDARY TIDES INN BY THE SEA
For those wanting to get right into the thick of the action in the Kennebunks, my choice is in the hotel right beside where I am staying: THE TIDES INN here at Goose Rocks
One more thing. The wonderful colliding angles of the building structure can play games with your eyes when you look at the hotel from the north east end of Goose Rocks Beach, because when you look from that distance and angle long and hard enough, THE BUILDING ACTUALLY LOOKS CROOKED. Come see for yourself. Maybe I'm just intoxicated by it all.
