Short blurbs from my eid holiday:
- Lizard crawling across my face while asleep not once, but twice. Sleeping outside shortly followed. - Malaria scare which turned out to be a misdiagnosis - Learning how to gut a fish only to find out later that day that one of the stray cats ran off with the two fish I had gutted. I was quite angry and shouted "blimey!" at the cat. The cat meowed. - Loosing my sneakers a mere 12 hours into the trip. - Loosing a tank top to the wind - Hamam trip in which a flock of 10 women and girls surrounded me firing dozens of questions at me and exclaiming to the other semi-naked women "she's American!" The women also took much pride in showing me how to properly wash and rinse myself.
- Learning about the ins and outs of the Yemeni healthcare system - Showering in hot water for the second time since I have been in Yemen. Natural hot springs. They mean hot. - Traveling in a shared taxi - a station wagon - with 11 people in all. 4 in the front, 4 in the middle, 3 in the back. This is pretty typical. - Looking down into perhaps the largest inactive volcano in Yemen to see perhaps the largest collection of bottles and trash floating in the pond - Making friends with the Pharmacist in Al-Khokha who incidentally became our supplier of tissues and phone cards - Shooting a Kalashnikov and in doing so, found a new hobby
- Vomiting into a bucket in front of Ali's friend who I met only 30 minutes earlier - Thinking "Al-Hamdullilah" when Ramadan was finally over - Riding on the back of a motorbike with two other people while wearing an abaya and hijab and carrying groceries More thumbnails ...
