I went out with 3 of my Iranian friends, Sina, Haji, and Masood, tonight to an Iranian restaurant. We stuffed our faces with delicious, traditional Iranian food. Umm boy was it good, but I really didn't realize what I was getting myself into as Iranian portions are enormous. Not to mention there are several courses...there is the bread, cheese and mint leaf appetizer, yogurt, salad, and then the main course. Of course, they all warned me of the portions mid-appetizer enjoyment..."Kim, you might not want to eat too much now as the entrees are huge." Did I listen? Of course not! Halfway through the main dish, I was bursting at the seams. Luckily, we opted for the lounge-type seating as opposed to a table and chair setup. This allowed me, at that point jolly, fully satisfied, and big-bellied, to stretch my legs out and lean back on a pillow. The sight was pretty hilarious...for roughly 10 minutes we all sat back, puffed our tummies up into the air, and relaxed. Masood actually undid his pants a little to allow room for his gut. What a joyful bunch. For dessert, we drank mint tea and I listened to stories and descriptions of towns in North Tehran which I shall see when I visit them...perhaps I will wait until visas are a little bit easier to obtain for U.S. citizens? yea, I think so. Tonight was truly a wonderful evening and I am going to miss my friends a lot when I leave in 2 weeks.
