I've decided to compile a list of some of my likes and dislikes of Dubai and this region. And so I begin...
Likes:
-The diversity of Dubai. Very few cities in the world have such a diverse population.
-Arab hospitality...it might even surpass that of the Japanese
-Dates
-Shaylas, hijab, and abayas (the traditional dress...long black "gowns" and head "scarf" or "veil")
-Omani men who treat women properly (see below)
-The heat and sun when I am close to a body of water
Dislikes:
-The fact that diversity means racism, classism, segregation, and hierarchies.
-Deciding what shoes to wear when I go for a walk knowing that my shoes/feet will be covered in sand/dust by the time I return to uni.
-Local men in Dubai who stare, gawk, and wink at women regardless of the fact that they are "Muslims." The way some of these men act and think is unlike anything I have seen in the U.S...and I thought the U.S. was bad!
-The heat when I am not close to a body of water
