As we are not swimmers, divers, or even really snorkelers, most of our stay was confined to walking as much of the island as we could. It is really in a very picturesque setting and is flat, for the most part. One day we did go out on a glass bottom boat and George snorkeled in an area where there were lots of tropical fish and also where he was able to get pretty close to nurse sharks.
Ambergris Caye was a welcome respite from the travel of our main tour. This was an extension on our travel package and we considered it a "rest" before we journeyed home. To get there we took a "boat bus" to the island that was jammed with people. Thank heaven there wasn't an emergency as I don't believe they had life jackets aboard and even if they had, it would have been impossible to get to them and put them on. The ride out was more than an hour. Fortunately, we returned by plane. The island was cute with traffic in San Pedro confined, for the most part, to golf carts and walking. The prices here were definitely aimed at obtaining every penny from the tourist. In other words, it wasn't a travel bargain.
