Day 3 of our trip took us first to Popham Beach State Park - I would say one of the top 5 highlights of our trip. I could have spent all day here! We also visited Fort Popham, a fortress dating from the Civil War, and saw seals (the only ones on the entire trip). We visited the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. Ate at Red's East in Wiscasset - my husband had the haddock and I had the crab cakes - both excellent. Drove to Ocean Point in Boothbay - incredible scenery! By late afternoon, we had made our way to Pemaquid Point and the Pemaquid Point Light. This was when the unpleasant weather started to roll in. Fog and mist and generally yuckiness. We ate dinner in Rockland at the Rockland Cafe. More haddock for my husband and I had the seafood plate. Both really delicious! By the time we left Rockland, it was dark and rainy and cold and all we wanted to do was find a place to stay and relax for the night. I called ahead to the Windward House (www.windwardhouse.com) in Camden and Jesse told me stop by and take a look at the rooms. I took one look at the blazing gas fireplace in the Chart Room and knew where I'd be spending the night. It was heavenly!
