First day of the UK - the Universal Congress of Esperanto. I'm not even sure why I bother turning up. Even if I paid to join up there's not really that much for me to do here. I suppose it's just the principle now.
Weather is absolutely crap. Coldish and a fair bit of rain.
I met up with the Germans that I usually hang out with at this event. They make the week of the congress bearable. I'm not sure why they turn up either as they also don't go to many lectures and spend a lot of their time complaining about how badly organised the congress is.

The only thing on the agenda for today is the fair and the interkona vespero. The fair was generally too crowded and as usual there was very little getting to know new people going on in the getting to know each other part of the evening.
I did however manage to sign up to sit an Esperanto exam. It's spread over several days. I'm giving intermediate a go.

Snap of the people in the congress hall waiting to get their name-tags and show-bag that they paid about $300 for.

No, nothing for me, yet again.

The scene at the interkona vespero. Actually it doesn't give the right impression of how busy things were at the individual booths.

Rotterdam's a pretty modern looking city with almost no old buildings - at least in the centre. On the other hand it is a pretty old city. I gather that during the war it was quite heavily bombed.

There's certainly some pretty strange architecture around. Such as these cube apartments. Apparently one of them's a display home.

I'm definitely going to have to have a look.
