Sri Lanka has been amazing so far. As I said its myself and two Canadian girls, Sara and Dana working on the construction site. So far we have been spackling the walls and painting. The work is strenuous especially with the sun beating down on us but well worth it. We are not alone, as members of the community there have all pitched in to help make the house. It is amazing to ssee this community in action as everyone wants to help including the young children who have also picked up spades and helped in the cementing.
After work I have been hanging out with the two Canadians as well as the two Scottish girls, Lauren and Samantha. By the way, I have moved out of the coordinators house and moved into the hotel on the beach with the girls. I have enjoyed this so much more. Its great waking up and going to bed with the sounds of the waves crashing in the background and jumping into the ocean after work.
This past weekend we traveled to Kandy a town having a huge Buddhist festival. It was a lot of fun to go and left us with some very interestibng experiences. The train ride was about 6 hours and it was first come first serve to seats and of course we missed that so we ended up sitting by an exit door watching the scenery go by. When we got to Kandy we looked for a place to stay and as there was a huge festival most places were booked so we found one place where we slept 8 in the room of two beds. Good times.
I did spend a lot fo time with Dana and Sara there and they are both amazing people, even though they are Canadian. The three of us came back today while some of the others are staying an extra night. I can't wait to come back to the U.S. but am sad to say goodbye to this trip.
I will push myself this week to get the most out of it and will see you all in a bit over a week.
