Di finally got the handbag she had her eye on in Istanbul
. Price less than half of the "best" Istanbul price. Leather items in this port are excellent. All brands, with the signs outside proudly proclaiming "Only Genuine Good Quality Fakes here". Fakes are everywhere in Turkey, and the world complains at China! This country will go broke if they manage to join the EU and the counterfeit policing starts in earnest. However the actual quality of what is being produced is amazingly close to the genuine article. Price tends to reflect this.
Last night was the Captains cocktail party. One of the few opportunities we get for a few wines on the house, and very good ones at that. Most know Leo as a red wine drinker, however I did want to sample most of what was on offer, and did finish with a red or two... It was also fun to dress up. Dress on board Nautica is "smart casual". None of the really formal - thank goodness. In fact thre are at least three on board dining areas where one can happily remain in shorts, sandals and a polo shirt or T shirt (although the latter is preferred to remain in the gym).
We are now in Kusadasi. Temperatures around 23¢ªC, and dry. We are enjoying. Most people come here to visit Ephesus, but yet another set of ruins was not on our agenda, Yes we are sometimes culturally bereft, but Kusadasi also has a lovely relatively small shopping area. What we were not anticipating was the number of cruise ships they can fit in here. 2 of the sailing variety, one a bit bigger than us, and quite old - filled with more than slightly overweight Poms displaying all their wobbles with and without shirts, and a huge liner with a real mix of English and Continental. We were one of the first ships in so managed to hit the shops first. Bit like Far East, bargains start with the first customer through the door, heaven help those who follow. Mind you the bargaining is still fierce, but in this Port, they were more laid back in their approach, unlike the in your face constant barracking in Istanbul.
