Hey everyone,

Costa Rica is finally beginning to feel more like my current home and less of a place that I came to visit. This past week began with knowing that I was going to loose my surfing buddy for the rest of my time down here. Rich went back to New Jersey on Friday or Sat this weekend. On Friday I took a 5:30 bus from Tamarindo. I traveled with three girls; one has been at the school as long as I have the others came to visit her. Jenna and Maia traveled in a private direct bus straight to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa, two surf towns on the end of the Costa Rican peninsula. The other girl named Kristen who has been traveling for a while now from Mexico all the way to Costa Rica, and knows less Spanish than I do, came with me on 4 public busses one ferry and one taxi. We had a three-hour head start on the other girls but we had to go a different way because the roads on the peninsula are really bad, so we called it the Amazing Race to Mal Pais! We had a good time knowing we only paid 12$ US or 6,000 colones. By the time we arrived they had already been there for 3 hrs. The waves are really great there the whole beach has peaks spread out everywhere so it was really great because even though there were surfers all over they where surfing different parts of the ocean.
We stayed in a hostel that was the best hostel that Kristen has stayed, and she has been in a lot. It was 10$ a night and they had pancakes included, but I had to make them myself. The people were mostly from Canada and "The Land Down Unda." The great thing was that most of them were learning to surf, it felt good to be able to surf so well on the intermediate waves down there, because the waves I surf are much harder to catch. I spent most of the weekend in the water and watched movies and played rummy a bunch in the middle of the day, I went to an Assemblies of God church I found in the town down the road, I found it mid day on Sunday and went Sunday night. It was really nice and because I have been to church so much I could make out the message a bit. After church I went to my first Tai restaurant, with money I really didn't have to spend, I also bought some crackers and tuna and a giant bottle of water for the bus I had to take at 4:20 AM the next morning. I had 13 $ and knew if I didn't buy anything I would probally had enough to get back. I had to go back alone because the girls are continuing to travel into Panama and beyond. So to make a long story short I arrived back at the school 11 hrs later and less than 2$ US in my pocket! To me that is a fun adventure because I didn't have any choice but to travel really cheap and not buy anything. On the bus my board got a little dinged up, I just fixed it and am about to surf so I will post something later.
