Okay, so here I am finally uploading photos. I brought my laptop to the computer lab at school but it's really, really slow. I have put up ten photos in about a half an hour and have been waiting 5 minutes for a video to upload. I think given the logistics of uploading photos I will only be able to upload a small portion of my photos and videos and stuff, but hey, at least they will be the best of the bunch!

So it's another really hot one here but at least it's Friday. I was going to go to the pool with the people I went with last time but I decided to do this and play soccer instead. I had an awesome time last time so I'm looking forward to it again.

I should probably write something about the pool experience cuz it was not like home. Once you walk in the locker room, about 5 or 6 different hallways appear, leading in every different direction. After walking down a hallway, it isn't immediately clear where the heck it's leading to. So I went down one after ignoring the fact that there was a lady mopping the changing room (that's normal). There was some construction going on and the men working said something I didn't understand so I kept going. Then this lifeguard spotted me walking around aimlessly in a mess of barriers and fences by the drained indoor pool and really got hot. She came running over, blowing her whistle and all and I have no idea what she said but it wasn't "dobry den". So anyway she escorted me down the stairs, back past the construction men and pointed at a open door leading outside to a grassy field. Apparently it should have been obvious after walking inside and paying that you had to go back outside and around the building and through the trees before you got to the pool. Whatever.

Here are a few random observations at the pool: they have diving platforms but the water is only 6 feet deep, people change on the side of the pool, using a "towel shield" or sometimes not. There is no size or age limit to wearing revealing swim wear; anything goes. The less the better it seems (not always bad, but sometimes really bad),and children can be naked whenever as long as they're not in the pool.

Okay well the photos I was uploading while I wrote that definitely got messed up and I had to redo it. Whatever, it just means this is going to get longer.

So today we took a class field trip to the Czech radio station here in Olomouc. It was pretty cool. We learned a lot about the station but the coolest part was when he wanted a volunteer to speak into the mic. Nobody spoke up and I thought it would be fun so I volunteered. They said to go into this little room and when the red light came on to just start talking. I didn't know if it was going to be live on the air or what so I just said like hi, dobry den, etc. Then they took us into the editing room and played it back and showed us how they could do all sorts of different effects and whatnot. It was cool when they cut out the "umms" and dead space, I sounded so much more intelligent! :)

Then I went to the second lecture on Czech history. It was good, I learned a little, most I remembered from the lectures last time. I really like history so it was interesting. Speaking of interesting, I have had some wonderfully interesting discussions about English/English usage with my suite mate Simon from England and my roommate Enrique from Spain. The British have some seriously hilarious expressions, and they think it's us who talk funny. Haha.

Well tomorrow we are going to some Moravian caves nearby, I saw them before. On Tuesday and Thursday nights they show Czech movies. The one on Tuesday was this classic fairytale movie from 1984 called The Devil's Brother-In-Law. It's good, I saw it w/ Veronika. The one we watched last night though was way different. It's called Horem Padem (Up and Down) and it tells the stories of a bunch of different modern Czech people and the stories are intertwined so it's really clever. The movie would definitely shock a lot of people back home and burst the "sweet, innocent Old Country" bubble a lot of people have about the Czech Republic. I don't mean the vulgarity would be too shocking, we have that in America obviously, but the issues it brings up, like mainly race, immigration, how the Czechs feel about it, prejudice, etc. And about how much life can suck sometimes. I liked it for the most part, I would have to see it again to absorb more. It was good to see a movie with so much thought in it. Really good.

Well I should read this to see if it makes sense but I'm gonna be late for soccer, so I don't have time. I will probably have time this weekend to upload more photos. It's gonna be a long process I think so bear w/ me...
