I started classes today at the Tec.  I only had two, and they didn't start until 4:30, which is great for me (I'm usually not fully awake until about 2 in the afternoon). My first class was international econ.  I'm taking it in Spanish, mainly because the English classes were all full.  The professor speaks clearly, so I could understand quite a bit of what he was saying.  Hopefully, I will be able to understand more as the semester continues. I am the only foreigner in the class, so I should be able to meet some Mexicans. I can't really tell how hard the class is going to be.  It seems like there is going to be a lot of group work, so I'm sure the non-foreigners are all looking to having a group member who can barely speak Spanish. My other Monday/Wednesday class is the history of Latin America, in English.  All of the student are internationals.  It seems like it's going to be quite easy.  The other interesting thing from today was the campus.  Until today, only the international students had been on campus.  I got more goofy looks today than I have in my entire life.  I'm relatively tall (6'4") and stick out like a sore thumb here in Mexico.  Before the Mexicans arrived, a lot of the international students spoke English to one another.  That's not really an option anymore.  Now I have to speak Spanish pretty much all the time, which is great.  I've already met a few Mexicans who are helping me learn Spanish too, so I should be semi-fluent by the semester's end.  Everything's still going very well.  I've met a lot of great people and I've only been here for one week. Let's see how tomorrow goes.
