Instead of staying the night in Colonia, which is a nice little old town that has been well preserved and is a UNESCO world heritage site, I decided to do a day trip and then stay in Buenos Aires for the remainder of the journey. So pretty much the trip is coming to an end and I'm just trying to get ready to go back home at least mentally. Get the last fun in before I go back for internship.

Colonia was nice and quaint. I don't feel like it was much different than most old towns anywhere else, but it was a nice adventure and I got to experience my second city in Uruguay instead of only getting to see Montevideo. I was travelling around with two girls from California. Orange County to be exact, but they were a bit ashamed of it actually.

Anyway, Colonia was on the coast as well so we got to see the sunset on the pier and it was nice. Plus the little town was pretty much fully picturesque so there was no reason not to spend the day there. Plus the food was very good there, which is likely due to the city catering itself to tourists from all over. Every single thing was listed in either US$, Pesos Argentinos and Pesos Uruguayos. I also got a little taste of national Uruguayan things as well. Aside from the mate which I already have, I had the national dish which is the Chivito. I already had it before and it's a beefsteak with ham, lettuce, tomato and a boiled egg on a baguette. It's pretty good and always cheap and filling. And for dessert it was the national dessert. I had no idea they had typical Uruguayan foods like this. ChajŠ was the dessert. It has a crust with crumbled toffee and it's sponge cake inside with cream. Fattening and buttery. They make it in Salto, which is a city in more Northern Uruguay.

It was probably better than going directly from Montevideo to Buenos Aires just because I've already spent so much time in Montevideo and need to see something different. If I had just an extra day, I'd probably have gone over to another city and come back shortly before flying out.
