But I am not really surprised. They are also giving him neurotin for the temporal brain lobe, he jumped off of a car (in motion or course) when he was about 16 and they think that injury cause another dopamine problem , as if he didn't have some inherited chemical problems.
Anyway as usual he made a friend in the parking lot of the Walgreens, a fellow detoxer (alcohol) and his wife, they had a 6 month baby with them and asked Seth to go to dinner with them. So from the hospital to the Walgreens to some strangers car to hang out, that is my boy. Anyway he came home about mid-night, withdrawing and happy, gave him his meds and he went to sleep, woke him gave him more at 8am and he sleeps again.
Now the drama, not ours ,but people we met. A mom I went to dinner with the other night is here with her son and his girlfriend down for detox of methadone. He is in a graduate program for gene therapy (?) and is on full scholarship. He was the one that became aggressive after detox and has never been aggressive. She did not want to take him to the hotel, but they said he was OK, well within a few hours she had moved to another room and told them to not tell him where she was. Next thing you know he busted the room up , tied towels together, tied it around his neck and tied it to the railing and threatened to jump. Of course police came, took him to psych unit for 72 hour lock up. They called his mom late last night and told her to come and get him, he was fine ,did not remember what he did and they believe he had a reaction to the geodon they use in small doses here to regulate dopamine. Seth has used it before ,but of course hated it and asked them to go back to Zyprexa he use to use. He had asked to be changed from Zyprexa a few years ago when it came out that with a family history (which he has) of diabetes it increases the chance of developing it. Well he has a pretty good chance of it anyway, so decided to go back to it. It is the only schizophrenic drug he has ever been compliant with,it doesn't make him twitch. Also this doctor explained that some families have some chemical that makes something about calcium go into the muscles with certain drugs (us) and that is why he twitches (and why 2 meds I have been on before gave me super twitches-remember that Saralyn-ED about killed me and Bobby called you-he went right to the nurses desk, called upstairs and said "come and help her, they are killing her" -it was funny - later). Anyway Dr. Spanaugle said he would rather a psychiatrist treat Seth, but I have never heard any of them understand brain chemistry like this guy, so Seth asked him to try to figure him out, we will have to fly down each month for awhile. Later when meds are right we will transfer to Wilmington doctor.
I am sending a picture of Seth when we were leaving, I think he would have went in the halls and took pictures nurses, he made rounds hugging everybody, he was a hoot.He said something funny when I took this, but can't remember what.
