Well on a train again, this time went pretty smooth, if standing in line for a hour and getting your ticket 10 minutes before train is to leave is your idea of smooth. I am glad I got there early, slow moving line. Angry people from all the nations ha ha. Some clapped when people finally decided what they needed and bought a ticket. I guess the expectation is to go to the information desk for details and then purchase tickets. When someone got to the front and started with all the questions, the crowd grew ill. OK me included, tried to say to myself," doesn't matter - it is just time" but really didn't want to miss 11:08 train as it was the last that would have me arriving in Prague during the day. Everyone along the way has said, do not get to Prague at dark. I am trying to follow the rule of knowing where I will sleep early in day for obvious safety reasons. Some areas the streets are full and I know I am alright, then other areas with few in neighborhoods - I do get a little concerned when it gets dark. Other women I have met are wearing whistles and pepper spray when alone. Didn't know I was going to be alone.

Now on to that subject, have been getting e-mails asking "where is Johnny? "Johnny is in Wilmington - like in USA, not here. He had a delay with business and I am traveling alone. I am doing good at it too. Haven't got lost that I can remember. Have jumped the wrong trams before, but guess what, when you are alone traveling there is no one to care that you are heading in the wrong direction - only yourself to satisfy. It is a pretty good deal, but there are times I think "I wish so and so could see this - it is beautiful". Also if you leave and start out walking in the morning and head in another direction than planned, well who cares, not me. So all is well. So off I travel like a big girl.

I am going to put a picture of this second class train car I am in, a bit different than the first class, but only 27 Euro, as rail pass is not covering trains in Czech Republic. The couple sitting with me are from New Jersey and she is 8 weeks pregnant. They have traveled all over Europe in 3 week vacations over past years. If I had fell asleep and woke up on this train near Brno, Czech Republic it looks somewhat like the mountains of North Carolina. Mountains, running stream with water flowing over rocks, even a fly fisherman in the water. The only thing different are the churches and houses and their different roof lines , they are made of tiles in different shades. Most of the buildings appear to be made of stone, no wooden houses in countryside.

I have arrived in Prague. Well the travel guides are right, it is a seedy looking place in the train station. On the train platform people are asking you do you have a place to stay, even a very old woman came up to me "Do you want my apartment?" and after that you enter the station, where lets face it - they got you. You have to exchange money before you can go anywhere. Now the money has yet to make sense to me. But my $160 came back to me in paper with 1000 marked on some of it and also one with 100 marked on it. I used the 100 for a taxi and was handed 2 coins back. I am literally clueless as to what he gave me. I have been using the currency conversion on the internet, so I know this room was about $95 a night with tax and breakfast. That is the best I can figure. I will get online tonight and learn this money thing real fast. This is when being hosted by someone comes into use.
On to the hotel, well it is the shizzle-dizzle - I can tell you that. Old building that is modern on the inside. I will give pictures to this deal. Bed with big down comforter and big square European pillows, and last but not least - air conditioning. Well don't get too excited because when I stepped off the train it was pouring rain and cold wind. I don't think it will last though. There is no way that I am going to be able to get a hold on to this language. I will have to stick to Danke (Thank You)from Vienna. I know the roofer is not here, but I am fascinated with these roofs. I have a picture of the building beside me and it is gorgeous. I know this much this is not a city that I will be wandering around at night. People can say what they want about Amsterdam, but it was not like what I have seen here so far.

Need to find dinner before dark, Bye

Ok lied, went out this evening. Found that I am only 2 blocks from big square of some sort that is full of shoppers. Then if I turn and walk a few more blocks I am in the old town area. When I arrived it was raining, I guess only the homeless were out and it was a little scary. In the morning I will pull map out and see how far I am from the Charles Bridge, I do not think I am far from it.

Oh dinner, I must admit today I ate Mcdonalds for breakfast and a happy meal for dinner. That happy meal cost 99 CZK ,I have no idea how much that is - could have been the most expensive happy meal in the world, but it was worth it. I think the girl got her panties in a wade because I ordered a kids meal with no kid, when I asked for ketchup she handed me one , when I asked for another, she sort of threw it at me and look discussed. Probably wondered how I got this size eating little happy meals ha. She will get over it.

Love the happy meal story... that's $4.46 USD - that's hefty for a happy meal - glad it was worth it!

But, just so you know, I have to practically squeeze the dayum ketchup outta the hands of the Mickey D's staff sometimes myself - it's like they own stock & are losing profit or something!

Gotta go now & see all the photos - still love getting the reminders of your posts - look forward to them each & every time... aisha
