Around the town in a day...
Entry 18 of 24 | show all | print this entry |
So today I really screwed up in my Spanish class...I cant figure out the passive voice to save my life...maybe its because I have never had one. My teacher told me about a lady who has a bunch of cats from Germany who lives by herself and screams all day through the bars of her window that the police need to come and help her. All of the people in antigua think she is a spy for the government, but she is 95 years old, so I dont know how good she is at investigative reporting...then she told me about a girl from China who came here to learn Spanish, but didnt know a lick of any other language besides Chinese, and it took her a month to learn the alphabet. She needed a Spanish name so people could say it, so she cholse Mariposa, which happens to be the same name the prostitutes use. She then fell in love with a Guatemalan, even though they had no idea what eachoteher was talking about and she kept calling him Ruis (his name was Luis). Apparently they are happy and inlove, so as they say, love isblind. Anyway, these stories are probably translated wrong, it was alot funnier when she told them to me in Spanish. btw, Jaime and Federico, I mentioned Rascaball to her, and she started laughing and said that it is a VERY common game played here too;) I bought a bunch of school supplies to take to the Volunteer place and made my way to the daycare...unfortunately I took a wrong turn ( I didnt get the luxury of being on the back of the Directors motorcycle this time), and ended up outside thecity, in a deserted area with only the hooting and hollering of construction workers to keep me company. Two hours later I realized I had done a full circle around the city and ended up at my starting place. I just got back from hanging with my homies (the older couple, another guy from the States and a girl from Quebec), and we drank wine (they did, I dont like wine) and ate crackers and cheese. IT was fun, and I love those guys. We are going out for dinner on Friday becase the couple is leaving for Panajachel on Saturday. It will be a bittersweet farewell... Ok, I have got to go study my passive voice, because apparently the active one isnt good enough for these folk....
