So after 18 nights away, it was time to pack up for the last time and head off on the 150 km run to home. There had been some light rain with a bit of thunder overnight and although we were rained on when returning from our morning shower, it was all clear while we packed up. Just as were were about to head off a nearby camper asked if I could help him roll up the flies on his camper trailer, because he was there on his own with a couple of young children. It was the one job he said that he couldn't do himself.

The lake certainly attracts plenty of bird life and as we left the park a large flock of cockies took off from beside the road and flew across our path. The rowers had returned and were on the lake training again.

Our chosen route took us across to Yea and down the Melba Highway, in part to avoid having to deal with Melbourne traffic, even though the road is quite undulating. The scattered cloud we left behind at Nagambie built to heavy black cloud as we went over the ranges at Castella and headed down towards Dixons Creek. Being already a challenging piece of winding road due to the steep decent, the quite heavy rain which began to fall made it just a bit more interesting. But the Avan tracks well behind the Ford Territory and kicking the transmission out of automatic into manual mode gives good control in these circumstances.

So after travelling 2666 km, of which 2148 km was towing, we were safely home again and apart from thinking about where we'd been and what we'd seen on this trip, thoughts moved to what would be our next trip away.
