We are currently on Cat Ba Island which is billed as the 'adventure sports capital' of Vietnam. Well, we can report that there is definitely some fun climbing here, but the town is probably best described as Vietnam's Panama City Beach.
Yesterday, after arriving we located the one and only climbing shop and booked a boat out to one of the limestone karsts that makeup Ha Long and Han La bays. Today was a cloudy but nice day and we got a nice taste of the beautiful bay on our way to a place called Moody's Beach. We shared this little crag with two French climbers in the morning and had the place to ourselves in the afternoon. It was a lot of fun.
Tomorrow we are going to the Cat Ba National Park which encompasses the of majority of the island. It is also home to the golden headed langur, the most endangered primate in the world. The estimated surviving langurs number only 65. Maybe we will see one!
