We are in Hanoi. We got in late last night, and after a little snafu with our driver not being there we got settled. Today we spent the morning doing some travel 'housekeeping' which is our way of saying we booked some trips etc. We have been a little worried about being able to visit all of the places we hoped to while here in Vietnam due to the Tet celebrations. Everyone here gets three days off (Feb 3-5) and that coincides with a weekend. The purpose of the time off is for people to travel home...thus our concern about transportation. We have been watching airlines and talking to other travelers and we decided to book now or forever be stuck somewhere far away from Saigon on the 8th.
So we did a little more forward planning than usual and are set for our trip. This afternoon we spent the day walking around Ha Noi, which is a very nice city and very, very busy. I really believe that it may be the craziest driving city I have ever visited. It all started with our flight. The pilot came in hard and fast and barely slowed as he swung the plane off the tarmac and taxied to a stop. I have never seen a plane fishtail, but he sure tried. Our taxi driver must have been his cousin as he executed more weaves than a basket maker does in a week. So, safe and sound, we are headed by train overnight to a town in the northwest highlands called Sapa. The hill tribes H'mong and Red Dzao live there.
Will try to post more pictures from our last day in Cambodia...
