We had a very early wake-up call, 4AM today which shocked us back to sleep upon arrival at Charles de Gaulle airport. After a brief delay to the French air traffic controller strike (a small protest strike, so there are still workers, and we were asleep anyway) we arrived at the Mediterranean Sea town of Nice along the Cote de Azur. Lovely town with quaint walkways, narrow streets, and palm trees. We actually thought it was a bit like Miami and lo and behold one of the many public beaches here is named Miami.
After checking in at the hotel and the conference it was time to explore. We took what appeared to be a cheesy tourist tour of the town in a little white electric train and cars, but it was probably the best E7 we spent on the trip, really allowed us to cover ground around the city and get a historical perspective, including a ride up Castle Hill site of the former provincial estate and Roman cathedral, now parks and open areas with high vistas of the city. There is a pollution-free metro above ground as well as a train that runs to Italy with Monaco along the way.
Teresa is checking out the possibilities for Friday while Bill works the conference on Thursday. We are looking forward to Valentine's Day dinner in Nice. More thumbnails ...
