After another leisurely coffee and late morning we returned to the Eiffel Tower and made our ascension. Truly this is an amazing engineering landmark. The gondola takes you in two different angles of ascension up to level 1 and then 2 after which you disbark the gondola for a more narrow elevator right up to the observation tower. The views were amazing. The photo showing the Peace Memorial is to the SE of the tower along the gardens we enjoyed on Sunday, the view in the opposite direction shows the Pl Trocadero across the River Sienne. If you move your finger just over and to the right from there you will be close to our hotel. You can also see the Arc du Triumph in that neighborhood, very centrally located.
Teresa wanted to visit the Montmarc area of town, quite a bit to the north, so being experienced Parisians we took a handfull of metro tickets and headed off. We did make it and the area did not disappoint, many shops, a large creepy cemetary (this whole town IS haunted you know ... ghosts and vampires supposedly if you read Ann Rice), and many cafes.
After much walking that area and facing a 4AM wake-up call we made our way back to the Champs Elysees and did some more shopping after which we just called it quits in the hotel room. We could easily spend the rest of the week here, but Nice awaits.
