Flag of Dominica  , Saint George,
Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Dominica is one of the largest and most northern of the Windward Islands in the West Indies. Called the Nature Island, it is situated between the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. Roseau is the capital and comes from the river reeds (roseaux in French) that grow around the island estuary.

Morning showers gave way to rolling clouds and filtered sun throughout the day. We decided to jump on the shore excursion to Trafalgar Falls and later the Emerald Pool found in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park (an UNESCO World Heritage site). We covered over 2000 feet elevation up and down to the falls and then to the pool. Teresa didn't think a hiking day would be required but indeed it was (check off work out for the day). The day was a bit cooler so we passed on a dip in the Emerald Pool.

Back on board we devoured cheeseburgers and enjoyed afternoon sun and casual dining. Our next stop: St George (Greneda) posts will be delayed two days while in Greneda and at sea.
