Flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis  , St. Kitts,
Monday, February 18, 2013

Our ship docked at Basseterre, St. Kitts capital of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. The city was founded by the French in 1627 after the island was settled part by the British and by the French four years earlier. Landscapes gardens and city squares highlight this influence.

A great island drive to the south point of the island to Cockleshell Beach for lunch at Reggae Beach Bar and conch fritters and lobster sandwich chased with local Carib beer.

The island has much development, more so than St Croix where we had heard that old land rights and violence with tourists had scared away much of the investment. Not so here and in fact Marriott holds a nice spot on the Atlantic side with a resort and vacation properties. Perhaps someday a return ...

Tomorrow to Dominica!
