Ta Keo is a temple-mountain, possibly the first to be built entirely of sandstone by Khmers.

It is rather undecorated and so different to where I had just come from Ta Prohm. Stark is one word that could be used. It's unfinished and no one knows why not. Perhaps the hard sandstone was hard to decorate or was it the death of Jayavarman V.

The top of the central tower is 50 m high ... and yes, those steps both up and down were steep and I can fully understand why Pissa decided to stay at the bottom!
