I saw the pink sky at 5.30 am and the dawn revealed blue skies but at least it was fine but still a very windy day.

Collected just after 8 am and we were off for the 9 am boat departure. By now the exposed open spaces meant that the wind really had a punch as we cross the lake for over an hour to be dropped off on the rocky point around from the Viedma glacier terminal face.

It was touch and go if we would walk on the ice because of the strong wind but the decision was made to go. Because of the wind we did not undertake the full walk up to the top. It was reported to be steady at 45 + kph but with the gusts … even with my build I was blown around a bit.

Dinner was on the run as we drove the 3 hours back to El Calafate tonight getting here at 9pm. The sweeping landscape is uninterrupted and the clouds are amazing. I was sitting in the middle seat and the van windows were not the best to take photos out of. They will remain a memory. It's after 10.30 pm and still day light. The further south I head the day light will get even longer. Reminds me of Southland's long twilight hours.

Loved the blue glaciers - absolutely stunning - so much bluer than any I have seen. Hope the ankle is o.k. Pretty hot here and we are doing a bit of painting. Take care Lee xx
