We continued with our bus journey towards the coast; first we took a 2 hour bus journey to La Rama and then we climbed into a speed boat and had a 1.5 hour trip downstream. The rains did come (and we had an open-topped boat) so Nicaraguan stype, we pulled a clear plastic sheet over our heads and had to crouch down and hold the sheet tight! It was not easy. We had 2 squalls, and so went through this sequence twice. We did get to see some great scenery. Arriving at bluefields, we had lunch again at a hotel (as normal, very slow) and took taxis to the local airstrip. We and our luggage were weighed, and then we climbed into small aircraft (12 seaters) to take the 20 min flight across to Big Corn Island.

At the El Paradiso hotel we were told that some of us had to go and stay in another hotel. All of us who were sharing twin rooms had to go, and we were promised that it would be as nice, but of course it wasn't. The beds are comfortable and it’s clean, but the hotel has few facilities in comparison and is a very cheap alternative! They don’t serve meals, so we have to take taxis back and forth to the El paradise. To say that we were not happy was a bit of an understatement but we negotiated a deal to include 2 breakfasts and a dinner in compensation.
