The stretch of Alaskan Hwy road between Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, and the US border we were told by many people was a rough, wild, ride 'em cowboy road that you'd better take at about 25 mph (frost heaves). We had good intentions of not going very far that day, since we had to go slow, but for one reason or another we found ourselves just compelled to push onward that day because we wanted to get through it!! I left the decision to the driver as to whether we should stop for the day or push on, and guess what, we made it to the US border at 8 pm! We stopped at the first pullout we found on the Alaska side (about 10 miles from the border), put the motorhome slide out, had a cocktail sitting on a rock looking at our first Alaskan scenery with the sun still high in the sky. When we got up at 1 am to let the dogs out, it was not really that dark, and we heard the eerie call of a loon and the full moon was just setting. It was just like an advertisement for Alaska, only real life!
